Letter : Milan, 1820 Jan. 31.

Samuele Jesi writes to a professor in Bologna (perhaps Rosaspina) that he will send him by post the "Fuggitiva, unica opera Milanese" which speaks of "the sad affair of Russia." Informs him about the disgrace of the last count of Sartirana, and sends news about various successful artists, including the "valentissimo Cavaliere Longhi" who is finishing his "grande opera." Jesi will soon be finished with the portrait of Thomas Aquinas for the collection of the "Illustri Italiani." He wonders if this is the first time that the effigy of a saint was drawn by profane hands, and if it would make him worthy of paradise. After the saint, he will resume the portrait of the patriarch. He adds at the bottom fresh news from Paris and Genova about the [French] government being in danger because of the revolution.
